Air Cargo Security (ACS) Program

Program Overview
Transport Canada is working with the aviation and cargo industries to:
* develop an Air Cargo Security Program that meets the highest standards,
* reduce risks to the safety and security of the travelling public, and
* keep goods moving in and out of Canada efficiently.
The Air Cargo Security Program is one of many Aviation Security activities that are being put in place to mitigate risks to passenger and baggage screening, non-passenger screening, and airport access control.
Strengthening Canadian air cargo security and making it compatible with the United States and key international partner systems will help our economy and position Canada as a strong partner in global efforts against terrorism.

Air Canada Cargo Launches the Envirotainer RKN e1 container, after being certified by Transport Canada as the first carrier in North America to receive this certification

Air Canada Cargo is pleased to announce the launch of the RKN e1 containers effective today, Aug 17th, 2009. Customers can now book the Envirotainer RKN e1 container technology with Air Canada Cargo.
In July 2009, Air Canada became the first carrier in North America to be certified by Transport Canada for the transportation of the Envirotainer RKN e1 container, which allows for the maintenance of temperatures between +2 to +25 C
"This is great news for Air Canada Cargo and for our customers. With the RKN e1, we are able to offer our customers another specialized solution for the transportation of temperature sensitive shipments," said Lise-Marie Turpin, Managing Director, Air Canada Cargo.
This latest development, which follows the approval of the RKN e1 container by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA), will allow healthcare shippers from across Canada, the northern United States, Europe, South America and Asia Pacific even greater access to the benefits offered by the RKN e1 and the markets they serve with Air Canada's proven AC Cool product line.
Thomas Persson, CEO of Envirotainer, said: "This is excellent news for the worldwide healthcare companies and their airline and logistics partners that are increasingly wanting to use the RKN e1 to maintain the quality and integrity of their products.We are seeing strong growth in demand for the container and have recently decided to invest in a further 80 RKN e1 units by the end of 2009 to keep pace with demand." Transport Canada's certification of the container is based on European Technical Standard Order (ETSO) that corresponds to the Canadian Standard of Airworthiness.
